The legislation, translated into Ga, Fanti, and Ewe, was launched in Tema by Madam Sherry Ayittey, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture.
Madam Ayittey indicated that the translated versions were to enable the fisher folks understand the laws regulating their work.
She said her outfit realized that a lot of agitation arose over the regulations because the fisher folks did not really understand it.
The Minister urged leadership of the fishing community to read and understand the regulations adding that they could also draw the attention of the Ministry to any misgivings about it.
She reminded them that the regulations were put in place to check light fishing and use of inappropriate nets among others as a way to replenish the fish stock in the country waters.
She also commissioned a refurbished Chorkor Smoker Facility at the Tema Canoe beach and presented three tricycles, wire mesh and aluminium bowls to the fish smokers.
Madam Ayittey announced the Ministry’s plans to introduce a scholarship scheme for children of fisher folks.
Mr Isaac Ashai Odamtten, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, stated that the Assembly spent over GH¢60,000.00 to refurbished the facility which was destroyed during a rain storm.
Mr Odamtten said his outfit would bring together small scale farmers and fish smokers under the Integrated Local Economic Development Programme to get their produce for the school feeding programme in the Metropolis.
