Mr Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, Central Regional Minister, has called on parents to work hard to curb the high incidence of teenage pregnancy, school dropouts and drug abuse among students in the region.

Mr Quansah made the call when he addressed a durbar of the chiefs and people of Agona Nyakrom and Agona Kwaman to climax their Annual Akwambo festival on Saturday.

He said parents and guardians needed to encourage their children to go to school instead of indulging in social vices that undermine their future.

The Regional Minister said the government was making efforts to equip the youth to meet their future challenges and would therefore need parents to complement the efforts.

Mr Quansah said education held the key to socio-economic development of every country and asked parents and other stakeholders to partner government to improve the sector.

Mr Samuel Oppong, Agona West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) urged chiefs and opinion leaders in the Municipality to collaborate with the Assembly to enact bye-laws to stop indiscriminate dumping of refuse.

He said the rehabilitation of potholes and construction of the road linking Agona- Mensakrom to Nyakrom had been awarded on contract and works would soon begin.

The MCE said the Assembly had acquired land for the construction of Lorry Park at Agona Nyakrom, while efforts were underway to woo investors from Turkey to mine quarry stones at Agona Nyakrom.

This, Mr Oppong said, would create of jobs for the youth.

Nana Okofo Katayi Nyakoh Eku X, Omanhene of Nyakrom, appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to reconstruct the road linking Mensakrom to Breman Asikuma.
